A fast computer usually has more than 1GB RAM, 7GB of free space on the Hard Drive.

Malware, Spyware, and all sorts of Viruses need to be cleaned out of the system.

You could start cleaning out your system by going to Start>Run and type in %temp%

    Delete all those files!

    1) Not enough RAM

    2) Viruses

    3) To many programs open (Also too many background items open)

    4) HardDrive space

You can speed up your boot time by clearing your browser CACHE by going to Start> Run> type C:WINDOWSPrefetch and delete everything in that folder. (This will not harm your PC)

Speed up internet explorer a little by (This is for IE 7.0) Go to Tools> Internet Options> Delete> Delete all (This will delete your browser cookies & saved info that was entered in forms (Such as remembered passwords or stuff that you typed on Google)

You can also delete uneccesary items from add/ remove programs that you know you don’t need. ( Don’t delete neccesary stuff such as Word Proccessors { like MS Word} or don’t delete flash player plugins. Just delete any thing that you don’t use that takes up 30.0 MB or more space on your harddrive

Wall papers large photos can also lag your computer especially on boot up, If I was you id use the default blue background.

Another thing that you can do to speed up your computer is buy more RAM. If you have 2 RAM slots them buy 2 Gigabytes of RAM or if you hae 4 slots then buy 4 Gigs (Even if you have four slots, 2 GIG should be enough for normal use, gamers should get 4 gigs)

You can back up your harddrive and then install its contents onto a bigger harddrive (Atleast 150GB) and you will have adequate space to download programs (250GB + for gamers)

Download SpyBot Search & Destroy to get rid of any malware, adware, or viruses lurking on your PC.

Disable uneccesary programs on start up using MSCONFIG in the Run program.

You should also upgrade your CPU (Central Processing Unit) or add a second one (Core 2 Duo is a good one if you don’t already own one) If you dont know what you are doing then have a Pro install one for you. When it comes to buying proccessors, it can becocme pricey.

Another way you can speed up your PC is to delete any bloatware that by default – comes with Windows. Bloatware is usually the games that comes with it, Trial software ECT.

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Besides spyware and viruses, if you are into lots of downloading, you need to make sure you focus on HDD maintenance. This includes regular diskcleanups and defrags. Whenever you download a lot of files, they tend to get fragmented and the PC can slow down.
    Get CCleaner and run diskcleanup.
Download the trial version of Diskeeper and set it to defrag in the automatic mode. It defrags even under low free space. After the trial you an decide whether to purchase it or not.
    Here is the link

You also need enough RAM on the PC to support the OS and all the programs you run.

Assuming you have no hardware issues, do this:

    (1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Get free editions of AVast or Antivir. Use the latest virus definitions file. But don’t install or run more than one anti-virus at the same time.

    (2) Run anti-spyware scans with Spybot S&D and malwarebytes.

    (3) Ensure all Microsoft security updates are applied.

    (4) Run disk cleanup to delete old temp files and other junk

(5a) Run chkdsk once to scan for file system errors. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265

(5b) Run a thorough disk defrag. Use a good defragmenter for this, and also run a boot-time defrag to fix the MFT and page file if they are fragmented. You can check out Diskeeper 2009, which is widely acknowledged to be the best defragger around. Their website has free 30-day trial versions. http://www.diskeeper.com

    (6) Disable unnecessary background processes and services that take up memory.

    (7) Make sure all the hardware components have the latest and most stable drivers. Video card performance in particular is strongly dependent on drivers.

    Good Luck!

For running slow there are many causes:
    Microsoft Registry Problems
    RAM
    De-Fragmenting
    Etc.

Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.
Registry Cleaner can fix your pc errors.
Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software’s, install new devices,
download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.
This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.
Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.
    Clean registry make pc faster.
