You will need to set up a network. Once you have the network installed, just drag any files that you wish to share to the “Public” folder.

To begin setting up the network, go to Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center. Use the wizard to help you set the network.

After you have everything set up and working, be sure to set “WPA” encryption so that you file are protected and can not be seen by someone piggy backing onto your network.

If both computers are connected and on the Internet, you just need to open ports up. You need to do this with both Vista and your 3rd party built in firewall if you have one. To do it with Vista, click Start, type “network sharing center”, press enter. You need to turn on file and public folder sharing. Do this on both computers. You will notice for the public folder sharing there are 2 options: share folder so users on other computers can read them only and share the folder so users on other computers can read, create, delete, modify, etc. Choose the one you want.

Now for the 3rd party firewall, you will have to open another question. You can probably also call the software vendor and ask them how to open ports 137 through 139 on both computers.
