How do I get apps for free that I would normally pay for on Android OS 2.1?

Does the Android OS have a jailbreak that lets you get free apps that I would normally have to pay for from a different app store like the Iphone does? I know there are a lot of free apps for Android but I wanted some of the better apps that aren’t free.

    4shared.com
search for the app you want and make sure its a .apk
put it on your sd card and download file manager
look in file manager for the app and click install
if u have a evo make sure unknown sources allow installation of non market applications is checked
    idk about other phones

and theres like a jailbreak but its called root
you dont need to be rooted to download the apps though
