How do I remove a system alert on my pc?

When I start my PC a system alert appears on my task bar saying that I have spyware on my computer that needs dealing with. I have AVG Anti Sp[yware 7.5 installed and that reveals no nasties. When I click on the alert it automatically takes me to the home page for Spy Dawn. I asked the computer for help but it says that by clicking on the alert I should be taken to the Security Centre and I should be able to select the ” I have antivirus software that I’ll monitor myself” check box in the Recommendations dialog box. But I can’t do that. How can I get rid of this annoying System Alert that pops up every couple of minutes.

    Hi there … ouch .. very tough luck. Yeah, I used to get that (did it on purpose to test out the spyware). This one worked very well, as well as other spywares out there

    The above links gives me this for your problem:

    Alias: SpyDawn, Spy Dawn, SpyDawn3.1, SpyDawnv3.1

    Description: SpyDawn (Spy Dawn) is a ransomware anti-spyware product that is secretly installed by the Zlob Trojan. Other trojans are also known to install SpyDawn. SpyDawn – or the trojan that installs it – starts generating warning messages (similar to the ones shown on your screen as well as at: http://www.spynomore.com/spydawn.htm) to try and force users into purchasing the full version of SpyDawn in order to have the alledged infections removed.

    Hope this helps!

    You may need to switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start – programs – accessories – system tools – system restore.
    Run your anti spyware in Safe Mode. Use AVG and Spybot S&D.
    To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You’ll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

    You need all these anti spyware programs;
    http://www.ewido.net – AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
    http://www.safer-networking.org – Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
    Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won’t uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.
