How to install a wireless PC card without the cd?

I have an old school acer without installed wireless, so I bought a PC card but when I tried to install it a small window comes up asking to put in the software cd so this hardware can be installed. I bought my card 2nd hand from this technician but I didn’t get a cd. Help!

Go on-line to the card’s manufactures site and down load the proper drivers…

Have you tried looking on the web site of the manufacturer of the card? You may be able to download the installation CD from there.

First, do you have internet access? You will need it to obtain the drivers you need. Look on the wireless card for the model number and go to the manufacturers website and there you can download the driver needed. Hope this helps!

    hi there
yes, wireless pcmcia(pc card) adapters will require specific drivers and these can be downloaded from the manufacturers website
look on the actual wireless pc card and the manufactuers name will be on the front ,then using the name as the search criteria do a websearch which will find you the manufactuers website
then when you have found the website go to the support link on the site which is were you should find the driver and software downloads, using the model number(which is found on the front of the card aswell) download the appropriate driver to your p.c
after downloading the driver ,install the drivers(but dont put the wireless pc card in just yet) and after installing the driver restart your laptop(even if you are not prompted to)
after the laptop has started again and windows had loaded insert your wirleless pc card and windows vista will locate the drivers you have just installed and the message will appear “ready for use”
also in the taskbar you will see a message “wireless networks avalible” click the “view avalible networks” link and this will forward you to the main wireless network window, there will be several wireless networks there (especially if you live in a built up area)
choose your routers/hubs ssid(service set identifier) and this will be found on the back of your router or hub next to the wireless key(which you will also need)
locate your ssid from the list of avalible wireless networks and when you have located it highlight it and click “connect” at the bottom
you will now be asked for your wireless “w.e.p” key which is on the back of your hub, enter this and when its correctly completed click connect
windows will now spend a few seconds appying the tcp/ip settings and then you will see the message “connected”
then click on internet explorer or whichever browser you wish to use and you will be able to go online with your laptop finally
a few words on wireless security, allthough wep keys are better than no security they are not 100% secure and to a hacker they could hack a wep key pretty easy
so my advice is change your wireless security from wep to wpa(Wi-Fi Protected Access),this is more secure than wep security keys and wpa is much harder infact nigh on impossible to hack
i hope this helps, however any problems let me know
    good luck !
