Reformat your computer and get more RAM. Your computer will be as fast as the speed of light.

There are only 5 possible causes.

    1. Need more RAM
A lack of RAM will affect your computer the most when you are running multiple applications simultaneously. That’s a fairly common occurrence these days. Think about how many times you run multiple apps at the same time. It’s not tough. In fact, you’re probably doing it now. In fact, it would be pretty difficult to run one at a time for most people.

Now that many computers ship with 1GB of memory or greater you may think that having computers slow down due to insufficient memory would be a thing of the past, but thanks to Microsoft’s new Vista OS, we may actually see it continue or even increase. It looks like Vista has a prodigious appetite for RAM. For all but Vista Home Basic edition, Microsoft recommends at least 1GB, but you’d do well to double that, and bring 2GB to the party.

    2. Viruses and worms
Download Zone alarm. http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/beta/forcefield/index.html I have it and it’s good. But it’s only a 15 day trial but at least it scans your computer. After the 15 day trial download ESET nod32. http://www.eset.com/download/home-64bit.php

If you have too many viruses, reformat your computer. That will 100% get rid of every virus. It wipes out your entire HDD so be sure to back up any important data.

Hopefully you have a good antivirus application that’s updated regularly. That will nip most virus problems in the bud, but it’s still possible to get a virus. In fact, even if take all standard precautions, such as not opening unrecognized email or attachments, etc., you could still get one. If you’re lucky, these malicious applications will only slow you machine down, in many cases, it will do that and much more, such as data corruption or deletion.

    3. Too much stuff going on in there.

You may just plain be asking too much of the old girl, or you may have to restructure your start menu so apps you don’t use all the time aren’t started automatically. That can not only impact your computer’s speed as you’re using it, but dramatically lengthen its start up time.

    4. Registry errors

These are one of the most common causes of slowdowns and crashes experienced by most users. Registry problems can also make your computer take a longer time to start up. The registry is where, on a Windows machine, all the important settings and other information is stored that the computer and the applications use to run. It’s actually a database that’s created by the system itself.

As you constantly add and remove programs, it creates problems in the registry. When most applications are installed they put new entries in the registry that’s used to run the application. One of the most common problems occurs when entries in the database called registry keys are missing or corrupted. These keys contain information that’s sorted as either computer or user specific. This enables the machine to support multiple users and applications simultaneously, so it’s easy to see how important the registry is. Incorrectly uninstalling an application is one of the most common ways a registry entry gets corrupted or deleted.

Thankfully it’s not too difficult to find and repair Windows registry problems. There are applications available that will do it for you, or you can try to do it yourself if you’re especially well versed in Windows. If take that path however, be careful, as a mistake here can really cost you.

These common causes of a slow computer are, in most cases, easily fixed, either through a little tweaking with your machine, or with a specific application designed to solve the problem.

There’s no reason you should have to suffer along with a slow or crashing computer. There are some common causes and easy fixes for your problems. Don’t let it cost you any more time and money. It doesn’t have to. Check out the fix a slow computer guide.

    5. Spyware and adware.

These sometimes malicious applications get on your PCs in all different ways, from legitimate applications installing them for tracking marketing data, to key loggers and other programs used to steal your passwords, account numbers, and other sensitive data. The bottom line is, the stuff is dangerous and slows down your computer. Even the stuff that’s not malicious can easily be a culprit. It takes up valuable hard drive space and eats up clock cycles you could use for other things.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

The reason the computer gets slow is due to the registry files becoming corrupted, or messed up, in simple terms. These files tell the computer or laptop how to operate the software installed on the system. If any of these files get messed up, the computer is not sure what to do and this will really slow down the computer. The other scenario is where you download other software, screensavers, pictures, videos, or even music, and this will somehow change the settings on a registry file. When this happens, the original program that needs that file now has the wrong instructions in it. So, it will cause the computer to run slow, or in a worse case, crash.

You can speed up your computer with a thorough analysis and repair of your registry. The registry Scan will identify corrupt files, paths, and registry keys causing your computer to have errors and run slow.Go to http://www.registry-bot.com to download registry bot.It is the most advanced and comprehensive registry repair product on the market. It will speed up your computer and make windows startup faster.

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

    2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

    1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
    2. Click Start, click “Control Panel”, and then double-click “Internet Options”.
    3. On the General tab, click “Delete Files” under Temporary Internet Files.
    4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the “Delete all offline content” check box , and then click OK.
    5. Click OK.

    3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

    1. Open your Start menu.
    2. Click Run
    3. In the command screen type “msconfig.exe”
    4. In the “system configuration utility”,click either “service” or “startup” tab
    5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
    6. Click “OK”

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.
Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed
    if you follow the tips.

Adopt the same policy that you would for your own health. Take a prevention is better than cure approach for the PC, keep it free from viruses most importantly. Next to keep the drives fast and fit, make sure you dont load tons of junk, install only the programs you will need. Clear out the temporary files that get created in the background. The drive has to be protected from catching diseases like fragmentation which lead to a debilitating performance, get CCleaner, run a diskcleanup and then a defrag with a good defrag tool.

There are MANY reasons for computer slow downs:

    a] not enough memory
b] too many programs starting up with windows at boot up time
    c] spyware
    d] too many junk files
    e] too many restore points

Routine maintenance the will definitely help restore your PC’s speed to what it could/should be…
    1. Increase your Virtual Memory, then
    2. Download and run PageDefrg (free tool from Microsoft).
    3. Run MSCONFIG and deactivate any startup programs that you DON’T want/need to run at boot time
    4. Uninstall any unwanted programs
    5. Ensure that you have more than 500 MB’s of free space on your C: drive. (if not, it’s not IF your PC will crash…it’s WHEN your PC crashes). If not, move your Music/Videos offline to DVD’s or CD’s.
    6. Purge all temp folders and internet temp files
    7. Run defrag again after all the cleanup you just did.
8.install Registry cleaner and run daily

“My car is broken. Fix it.”

Anyway, I think it’s something else.

    Not your RAM.

    Not your space.

    Probably not viruses.

    Not your registry keys.

    It might just be… Ta-da:

    YOUR VIDEO CARD!!

If your computer’s speed seems just a little bit late, and it seems to complete actions, but not display completed actions on screen until a bit later, then you probably have a screwed-up video card.

As in, lag on games. You imput the commands, but it doesn’t show the screen change frames until a bit later.

It’s your video card. Your performance is probably perfect, but you just don’t see it.
