What is a digital frame ?

Digital photography and cameras have become the cheapest way to capture family memories and events. Along with these, the digital frame is also developed. The digital picture frame works with or without a computer to display the photo digitally.

When a digital frame is used without a computer, it reads the photo from a memory card. Most frames are compatible with numerous card formats from compact flash to Mini SD. Sony’s Memory Stick and Mini SD cards are the most common used. To view the photos in a digital frame, you have to insert the memory card and the frame will detect the files and display it on the screen according to the set up you input, like slide shows for example.

Some digital frame model can store pictures using its internal memory. When it is connected to a computer, you can transfer picture from the computer to the digital frame’s internal memory. So, even when there is no card inserted in the digital frame, photos from the internal memory can be displayed.

While digital frame is a bit expensive than regular frames, the ease of use in displaying photos frequently can be worth the cost. It can dramatically decrease the cost of displaying pictures taken with the use of digital cameras and make it more cost effective.
