Personally I use AVG Free Edition. Its running process consumes almost no RAM, meaning that it wont get in your way when you try do anything else. And it is effective as it founds all viruses till now and I have not had any problems at all.

There are 2 of them that are free and do not slow your computer down .

    they are AVAST & AVIRA

    Avast – http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html/
    Avira – http://www.free-av.com/

Choose the one that appeals to you . Because both are good .

    Good Luck

norton has good protection but it also slows your system down a little. the best AV would be mcafee it does really good. but i would highly recomend upgrading to windows 7, it has a built in protection and hardly ever gets infected and works great!.

I like Avast, AVG is not to bad but has become more bloated as of late. Microsoft Security Essentials has a very small footprint too. Stay away from Internet Security Suites there huge programs and not any more effective the the ones I just mentioned.

Avira and avast are the best ones. Not avg, it has no root kit protection.

for a anti-virus try using avira or avast, both free, for a anti-malware program use malwarebytes anti-malware, free also, a very good program that is light on the pc as well

i’m using Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0. The new version has been released on their website. It s a freeware. You can register yourself on the avast website to recive the registration key . They provide timely updates (small in size, ie. In kb’s. Which s usefull for people with limited internet plans ). It s fully legal n it generates a virus recovery database to report avast about the new viruses .
To detect n delete malwares on your comp use malware bytes . Another free software . N a powerfull tool to clean your comp of malwares. I use these softwares myself .
