What specifically are the advantages of Mac over PC?
Does the Mac vs. PC debate still rage? I haven’t purchased a new computer for about 4 years. I occasionally hear advocates of the Mac say they prefer them over PC, but not why. I find my PC works fine for surfing the net and the programs I use (MS Office, Photoshop, Flight Simulator, Quicken, several Topo map programs, and i-tunes). What would be the advantage of my replacing my PC with a state of the art Mac instead of a state of the art PC if the cost were similar?

You pay more and you get less.

none. .mac sucks. i agree with the guy that says you pay more and get less. You could get a state of the art pc for the price of a cheap mac because they’re so damn expensive.

Search the archives. This question is asked many, many times every day. There are good reasons for going for a Mac but it is a question of whether the benefits justify the additional cost for a particular purpose.

If the cost was the same, you’d end up with a Mac with far lower specs than the PC that wouldn’t run Flight Simulator (without installing Windows via Bootcamp). Also, you’d have to repurchase Mac versions of all your software (Office, Photoshop, etc)
URG… i’m sick of people who don’t know what they’re talking about saying “Macs don’t get viruses”. Get a clue people, Macs CAN and DO get viruses. Apple is even starting to recommend that Mac owners install antivirus.

With a Mac, no viruses, no spyware. They cost a bit more but last longer. Software is available to do just about everything, though there’s less gaming software.
As for the Mac operating software, it’s built on Unix and is rock stable. Seldom crashes and will run for ages without rebooting, unlike a PC and Windows.

There are some advantages of a Mac
One of the major being there are hardly any viruses at all the effect them cause almost noone writes them for Mac…
Also you can run virtual PC which allows you to run windows/windows required products which sadly the Mac tends to run more stable than a PC does.
The main advantages of a PC is you can more easily obtain one (that is price wise) and you typically dont have to worry about compatablity like on a Mac.
In the end though… unless you are doing things that take a true demand on your comp, then PC is fine (art rendering… Video/Music editing… just for afew examples)

Well, My video game “The sims 3” you get more advantages. I don’t know why people perfer the mac. And the PC has been around more and has grown better and better over the years. It’s better to stay with the PC. I love the PC!

Excluding the whole OS/Security/Virus debate – It really depends on what you do the most.
PC’s are better at programming & numbers and have more readily available programs.
Macs handle graphics & graphic/page layout design stuff better.
Both are good for general games, surfing the net and all the standard stuff.

A good PC can out beat a Mac. Macs are nice but not none for power.

Mac Pros
1. The only advantage is ease of use. Killer OS.
2. Customer support is better than about 98% of PC companies out there.
3. Works out of the box.
4. Hackers tend not to write as many viruses as for PC. There are spyware and viruses for Mac, thus Symantec Ativirus for Mac.
PC Pros
1. Half the price, twice the speed, storage capacity and overall performance of a Mac.
2.Wide use and compatibility with multiple OS. Some people have been able to install Windows in Mac but with great difficulty and Linux takes a real pro. Mac will not run Windows as they say they do in the commercials. An why buy a Mac to run Windows, see No. 1. It would be asinine.
3. Depending on the PC you buy is the customer support you’ll get. I happen to think that Dell has the best customer support of all PCs.
4. Most corporations use PC platforms because of the flexibility they offer. With flexibility comes a lot of vulnerabilities as well, but it is worth it.
Mac use a foolproof approach to software and hardware. Like Uncle Murphy use to say; “If you build any system that even a fool could use, only fools will use it”. LOL
I am a Civil Engineer and I am PC.

With macs you pay for more and get less…people rant on about no viruses or spyware for macs and thats simply because no one gives a dam about MACs as of now PC’s are still the dominat computer so all private/secret information is kept on them. PC’s are also use more by the general public. The people who makes all those viruses and spyware are targeting information…since no one uses macs there no information to get so they would be wasting their time hacking macs…Get a pc its cheaper, and alot more customizable. If anyone can actually put up a non-malware based arguement for why to get a mac and you think its reasonable by all means get a mac

I own both a Mac and a PC and personally I prefer the Mac. My reasons to justify my favoring of the Mac is the stability and flexibility of the operating system as well as ease of use. The mac comes this detail instructions of every aspect a user would encounter this can be found on its supprot site which is http://www.apple.com/support . Mac’s are also virus free therefore more resillent to crashes. Macs have the ability to install windows so you have the freedom of switching from o the windows Operating System when needed.
