What is a landline ?

A landline is a connection between two telecommunication devices. The term most frequently used is a telephone, differentiating it to a cellular or a wireless phone. Wireless phones outwitted landline in popularity but there are distinct uses for a landline phone, which will keep it from being paced-out.

The main disadvantage of a landline is that it has to be physically connected to wiring for it to work. You have to plug it into a phone jack to connect with a larger system relays and cables controlled the by company. The signals that run in the phone go through these cables, although other phone companies use towers to relay and transmit data.

The fact that the signals used physical cables in transmitting made landlines more secure. Unless someone has cable access or able to get a signal from a special phone, the conversation sent over landline will be confidential. With encryption, the conversation can have more security like phones used by intelligent officers and government officials. Most consumers may notice that they are asked to call from their home phone in their credit card transaction for it ensures the security of data exchange.

It is more likely that the signal in landline be clearer than wireless phone. Landline phone is still considered the main communication method in business and some areas that have poor wireless service. People who get bad wireless reception may ask you to call back in a landline to continue the conversation.
