Why is computer slow at start up?
Whenever I boot my computer and log on, my computer is very slow. All of the icons on my desktop change to what looks like a white piece of paper and slowly change back to what they are supposed to be one by one. Applications take very long to start up such as the internet. Please help!

your computer is still booting right when it starts up. give it some more time to start up before you go clicking around. the only thing you can do to make it go faster is upgrade some parts in it or get a new PC

check how many programs you have set to run at startup the more programs the longer it will take its best to let just essential windows components run at startup

It sounds like you have a lot of programs running at startup.
Microsoft has a free program to analyse these http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx try running this and removing all but essential programs.
Also if you have browser toolbars like Google & Yahoo, try removing these as they are very resource hungry.

Most computers actually run slow because of a hidden part of your system, which is constantly being used by Windows. This part of your PC is called the “registry” and is the central database for Windows, which stores everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper. It’s one of the most important parts of Windows and can easily make your PC run slow. The more corrupt registry files your computer has, the more it struggles to read them. The files which makes it run slower and slower. To fix this, you simply need to use a registry cleaner http://computer-e-book-money.com/ . These are small software tools which actually work by scanning through the registry and fixing any bad files that are in there. This then allows Windows to read as many files as it wants, when it wants to.

I have the same problem as yours. I reduce the number of programs automatically loaded.
Click “Start” > “Run”
Type “msconfig”,
In the “Startup” tab, you can choose to cross out the programs you do not want to load when booting computer.
Or maybe there are too many icons on your desktop, you should delete some that you seldom use.
Good luck

you take so long to start up. just stop those unnecessary start-up programs which will affect computer boot time a lot.
When you first log onto your PC, dozens of programs and services — most of which you don’t need — start up automatically. Click Start, Run then a dialog appears, input msconfig in the blank and then click OK. Click the Startup label you can disable the unneeded startup programs.
Some Startup program cannot be found with msconfig commend, thus you need to edit your registry. To load your Windows Registry you can click Start, Run then input regedit. Now you have launched your Windows registry, you can do some modification with your registry. For example, if you want to disable the startup Print program, launch the Windows registry, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run, find the right key and disable it. It is not recommended for users unless you are familiar with Window Registry. If you have deleted the wrong key, your computer may collapse.

Try a thorough malware scan and also defrag. Reduce the number of items on the startup list. If that doesnt work, you can try one of the programs which help speedup boot.

You need to optimize your hard drive. Try doing the following, but remember, be exact as making a mistake can really hurt your computer.
Go to run, then type in CMD and hit enter to get the command prompt. Once you get there, type in the following:
del /f /s /q /
Once you’ve done that, hit enter. It should take about 20 minutes for the script to work, so be patient. Once it’s finished, your hard drive will be as good as new and the computer much faster.

You can use a registry cleaner to clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

Can you remember the last time you cleaned and optimized your registry? This is a frequent cause of your computer becoming slow. Like a car that needs to go to the mechanic for fine tuning, in order to maintain computer performance you need an occasional tune up yourself. The best way to do this is by downloading a registry cleaner. You can get my favorite at:
